FSSC 22000 certification is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)
The Foundation for Food Safety Certification has created an internationally uniform certification system for the food industry: by certifying to FSSC 22000, food manufacturers and food packaging materials can contribute to supply chain safety and cross-border harmonisation of certification systems.
Widespread acceptance of FSSC 22000 certification
The system is based on DIN EN ISO 22000 and the technical specifications for special preventive food safety programmes. It is supported by the Confederation of the European Food and Drink Industry (CIAA) and, unlike ISO 22000, is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Major corporations have been the driving force behind the introduction of this system. It is anticipated other multinational food manufacturers and their suppliers will also support the certification.
For whom is the standard intended?
Successfully certified companies can demonstrate to their business partners that they have implemented a controlled food safety management system. Certification is aimed at organisations of all sizes that produce and process animal or plant products, other foods and ingredients or supply packaging material for them. A prerequisite for certification is the implementation of a quality management system for food safety and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).
This system can be implemented either by the organisation itself or with the assistance of a specialist consultant. Contact us, we will be happy to help you.
