Learning objectives:

The technique of Hazard and Operability Studies, or in more common terms HAZOP, has been used and developed over approximately four decades for “Identifying potential hazards and operability problems” caused by deviations from the design intent of both new and existing process plants. HAZOP is an abbreviated term for Hazard and Operability study. It is a technique that identifies the potential hazards and operating issues with the design and construction of equipment and plant

and involves the interaction of a multi-disciplinary team. This course covers the explanation of the HAZOP techniques and how to apply such techniques in the process safety.

 Training Objective:

 The aim of this course is to provide the participants with the knowledge and group leadership skills to lead teams in effective Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) studies and HAZOP studies. Upon the successful completion of this course, participants will: 

  • Gain an understanding of the concepts of PHA and of the majortechniques for hazard identification and when each should be used.
  • Gain an understanding of the responsibilities involved in PHA leadership and training in the skills necessary for leading PHA studies.
  • To be familiar with HAZOP Techniques
  • To act as a Team Leader of a HAZOP Team
  • To be able to carry out HAZOP Studies
  • Gain knowledge to describe the need for change and change management as well as effective methods for dealing with changes
