FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) is an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization established in 1993 to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and financially viable management of the world’s forests.

The international organization Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) has developed standards for Forest Management certification and for Chain of Custody certification according to specific guidelines.

The FSC Forest Management Certification concerns forest certification by ensuring that the forest management occurs in a responsible and right manner.

The FSC Chain of Custody standard describes a management system that aims at the effective control of raw material used for a company’s production. This concerns all the stages of raw material processing to the point of delivery to the customers, thus reassuring that the raw material used and the following procedures are according to the requirements of the standard and the responsible forest management. This standard is addressed to sawmills, wholesalers, retailers, furniture manufacturers and paper producers, publishing and printing companies.

The FSC® certified companies prove their commitment to environmentally friendly and ethical behavior. The certification according to FSC guidelines, provides specific benefits to the Customers and Associates of the certified company, such as:

• Increase of trust through the documented compliance with the requirements of an internationally recognized standard.
• Wider acceptance of wood and its products by the Customers and Consumers who emphasize on the origin of raw material (timber).
• Environmentally aware Customers
• Usage of the FSC® trademark as a marketing tool.
• Proof that the wood does not originate from controversial sources.

TÜV HELLAS can perform audits through the parent company TÜV NORD CERT GmbH and award accredited certificates according to the FSC Chain of Custody Standard. Up to now TÜV NORD CERT has awarded more than 600 certificates to paper and wood companies.
