The use of veterinary drugs in food producing animals may result in the presence of residues in foods, including milk and meat. With the rising consumer awareness and importance of safe food, testing of products such as meat and milk for such residues is crucial.

The conventional methods used are that of Immunoassay or microbiological tests used to screen for residues, but chromatographic methods are needed to confirm positive results. Thus, analysis using LC-MS/MS gives faster and reliable results. At TUV India, we use the best in industry highly efficient equipments to ensure prime quality results with minimal errors.

Rapid quantitative determination of multiclass veterinary drugs residue as declared in FSSAI listed in a single method using LCMSMS complied with CD 2002/657/EC guidelines are done at our laboratory. This method has a simple hybrid extraction technique followed by protein precipitation & liquid-liquid extraction and analysis by UHPLC-MS/MS.

The method has been validated keeping LOQ (limit of quantification) at concentrations ranging from 0.5 - 5 ppb (parts per billion) based on MRLs applicable. The developed method is of unique quality as it has clubbed all multiclass veterinary drugs like- Tetracycline, Sulphonamides, Anthelminthic, Macrolides, Beta-lactum, etc.

Our laboratory continues to participate in various proficiency testing programs and have achieved very successful results and thus proven it’s proficiency over the years in various sample matrices such as fish, shrimp and milk for different antibiotic groups such as nitrofurans & metabolites, sulphonamides, tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, and fluoroquinolones.
