Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites of Mycotoxigenic fungi that are poisonous to humans and other animals if consumed in sufficient quantities. When ingested by animals or humans, Mycotoxins cause a toxic response known as Mycotoxicosis.

Mycotoxins are generally produced during the growth or storage of food commodities (e.g. cereal grains, nuts, corn, coffee, wine, beer and grape juice, sorghum, rice, dried beans, apples, pulses, cacao products, spices, and some animal-derived products). Enhanced awareness about  Mycotoxins-caused illnesses is reflected by the growing number of countries that have adopted  regulations which define acceptable limits/levels for presence of these Mycotoxins in commodities.

At TUV India Food Testing laboratories, we use latest analytical techniques such as HPLC and LCMS/MS using internationally validated methods to analyze Mycotoxins in various food matrices.

Different Mycotoxins can disrupt critical hormonal systems, damage organs, compromise the immune system, or cause cancer. Mycotoxin contamination can be managed by disseminating knowledge about Mycotoxins, predicting and preventing contamination, detecting Mycotoxins in grains, effective use of contaminated grain, and breeding crops for fungal resistance.

Mycotoxins control are widely regulated by most countries. At TUV India we cover testing as per the EC 1881/2006, FSS (Contaminants, toxins and residues) regulations, GSO 841/1997 (Aflatoxin residues), and other important regulations for same.
