Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
A REC is a legal instrument that conveys to its owner, the right to claim the associated environmental attributes of its generation of renewable energy resources. It represents the green attributes of the power.
When a renewable energy source produces 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity, one REC is produced.
RECs can originate from fuel generated from solar, wind, hydro or other renewable sources.
